Brondos

In winter, among the children on the lenkere (wheeled sled found only here) the brondos – masked with furred sheep skins and wearing brass bells – can be found on the streets. It seems that this costume has been preserved since the Tatar invasion (1717), being used then in order to frighten the horses of the heathens. The costume is composed of the sheepskin mask, white shirt and tassels (pants), gâbacs (whips) and several dozen dronjes (bells). Brondos meet on the streets of the town from the first day of Christmas until the New Year.
