Fuga Lolelor Cincu, Târa Făgăraşului

Loles are scary masked characters with a costume made of black cloth, a painted mask that does not allow the wearer to be seen, and demonic tails woven from hemp. They perform their ritual by making a hellish noise from their waist-bound talons and Saxon whips of expertly woven leather.

It is an end-of-Winter carnival held two weeks before Lent, or two weeks before Ash Wednesday. Saxon customs with documentary attestation from 1689. The meaning of the custom of making a lot of noise to drive away winter and evil spirits from the village.

A committee of Loles directs the activity and chooses the Host from where the procession starts.
There's an allegorical chariot, a caricature-adorned trailer full of Jurors and a cook making pancakes.
The jurors criticize the villagers' antics over the year through poems composed by them.
There is also the Guilds crate carried by two people asking for eggs.
In the old days, the allegorical chariot was pulled by buffaloes, the Loles were supervised by hunters so that they would not deviate from the rules established in time.
Currently, some supervisors are being established among the Loles to respect the rules.
The procession starts from the host accompanied by the village brass band, stopping at the Town Hall.
There the Poems are recited, then they go out into the streets where they are rewarded with doughnuts, bread with lard and onions, wine and brandy.
The procession ends on the last street, each participant, going home to prepare for the Lola Ball. This concludes the celebration.

The event is organized annually by the Cincu community.
