David's Star with bells - Spain, 13th to 16th century

The same symbol has been assumed in different cultures with meanings sometimes close, sometimes totally different.
The hexagram – composed of two overlapping or interlaced triangles – could represent a duality or an opposition. Thus, she symbolized fire/water, masculine/feminine, good/evil, macrocosm=God vs. microcosm=humanity (Terra) or more abstractly, harmony and peace.

Even if in the public consciousness this symbol currently seems primarily associated with Hebrew culture, it has coexisted throughout the millennia in all great cultures.
