A very interesting shape handle bell for my collection.

Sweden - Iron bell		Cataloguing Conclusion The fact that it has the letters HMS (possibly followed by a ship name that is less legible or has been erased by the patina) places the piece in a clear typology: It is a commemorative or office piece made in the traditional style of the British Royal Navy. Even if the physical assembly or casting of the 20th century brass elements may have been subcontracted to a workshop in colonial or post-colonial India (as was frequently practiced for Commonwealth markets), the concept, design, destination and historical identity belong entirely to the United Kingdom. It is a wonderful confirmation that raises the documentary value of the object in the picture within your collection, giving it an official British “passport”!
